The BMW M2 is a powerful upgrade of the previous version, and it looks well-muscled on the roads. Here, Big Motoring World gives a rundown of all you need to know.

Upgrade

As well as a whole host of technology upgrades, the M2 has 365bhp and resembles a cross between an M4 and a 2-Series Coupe. It has inflated track by 63mm at the front and 69mm at the rear with quad pipes. The interior is smart too, and familiar with BMW’s brand.

Rear-wheel drive

The power of this car all comes from the back wheels. You’ve got a choice between a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed twin-clutch DCT auto lifted directly from the M4.

The 3.0 litre turbocharged engine gives 6,500rpm and 343lb ft of torque, reaching 62mph in 4.3 seconds from a standstill. The top speed is an impressive 168mph.

The engine sounds like a racing car, especially when you’re chasing the 7,000rpm limiter. It’s not as boisterous in general driving though, so you will still look suave and sophisticated on the school run with electronically controlled flaps in the exhaust system.

Options

You have plenty of choices to make with the new M2; it’s available in manual and DCT versions in blue, white, black and grey. You can also upgrade the stereo in certain versions. Technology includes GoPro and BMW iDrive which allow you to record your driving and watch it back.
