Luxury German carmaker BMW is set to release the next generation Series 5, its best-selling model, in 2017. Recently the brand previewed its innovative styling kit and here’s what you can expect.
Series 5 upgrades
An article on Motoring, an industry publication, reveals more details. BMW has released information on the G30 Series 5’s performance and styling upgrades. Its dealer-fit options, cultivated by BMW M GmbH, include a sporty body kit and mechanical upgrades to the engine, brakes and suspension. However, the engine upgrades will only be provided for the car’s two six-cylinder petrol engines.
On the 540i, this has been dubbed the M Performance Power and Sound Kit. Its aftermarket option increases the power and torque by 25KW and 50NM each, driving the output to 265KW/500NM. Meanwhile to boost the turbocharged 3.0-litre’s performance, an ECU tweak has been added to the in-line six-cylinder, along with a sports exhaust, whose tailpipes come in either chrome or carbon-fibre finish. The exhaust, which can also be fitted to the 530i, has a “striking, sporty sound.”
Later in 2017, BMW will unveil the diesel 530d’s power kit. This includes an ECU re-flash and raises the power and torque by 20KW and 30NM, increasing the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel’s output to 215KW/650NM. We don’t yet know the performance figures for the more powerful diesel or petrol car in the next generation Series 5, but we do know that BMW has developed better brakes.
These BMW M Performance Sport Brakes feature inner vented, perforated brake discs and four-piston aluminium callipers. Meanwhile, the new Series 5 will have a comprehensive body kit. This will contain “a sportier front bumper, rear diffuser, carbon-fibre rear spoiler and sills,” along with a black M Performance grille, front wings mounted with black brake vents and carbon-fibre door mirror caps.
Meanwhile, the M Performance accessories list for the next generation Series 5 looks pretty exciting. It will give drivers the option of getting their car with large, lightweight, 20in wheels. Also, consumers will now be able to get an M Performance Alcantara-trimmed sports steering wheel fitted inside the vehicle. This will come with shift paddles for models that contain the eight-speed automatic gearbox.
We won’t know the pricing for all of these new M Performance upgrades for the next generation Series 5 until it goes on sales in Europe in February 2017. However, we do know that these upgrades will help make the new Series 5 a hit with customers, just as previous generations of the model were. We can’t wait until one of these next generation Series 5’s rolls onto the Big Motoring World forecourt, so you can buy this top quality vehicle second-hand, for a price that won’t break the bank!
