Meet the latest addition to the BMW range, the BMW X2

The SUV and Crossover segment of the car industry has seen rampant growth over the last half-decade as motorists switch to larger, more versatile vehicles. This has created a great amount of competition in this sector as manufacturers bring new models to market, aimed purely at this segment.

BMW is somewhat of a trendsetter. Originally going to market with its popular X5 model back in 1999, the marque has increased it’s SUV offering substantially since then, and the range currently includes, the BMW X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6. Fast forward to the beginning of 2018 and the all-new X2 joined this lineup. A smaller crossover, slotting in between the hatchback sized X1 and larger X3, the X2 is designed to take on the likes of Audi’s Q2 head on.

What of its chances then as one German powerhouse takes on another?

Let’s talk about it looks. Straight out of the box, this car is visually striking. It’s clear this is an all-new model and is far more than just a BMW 1-Series on steroids. Fitting into BMW’s existing design language, the X2 take’s in obvious design cues from the rest of the range. The two-piece kidney grill is ever present at the front end and has been enlarged and given a more angular edge to accentuate this iconic figure. Its grill isn’t the only feature to be given a more angular and aggressive look. Whilst graceful lines flow from the front wings all the way through the door line and onto the rear quarters of the vehicle, the X2 features relatively flared wheel arches and prominent side skirts, all of which tie together to give a youthful, yet elegant look. This style continues around to the rear of the car which features the BMW emblem prominently on the rear pillars on either side. Twin tailpipes under the rear bumper and large, sporty, alloy wheels finish off what is an already well-sorted design.

Step inside, and this design trend is complemented beautifully by this car’s interior. A spacious and comfortable place to be for both driver and passengers alike, the X2 boasts the latest in automotive technology. Whilst you are enjoying the finely upholstered seats you will be able to take advantage of a Heads-Up display, BMW’s intuitive iDrive Controller and optional ambient lighting.

Whilst some of these features are optional, the BMW X2 comes with a range of specifications to help you really stand out from the crowd. BMW really wants you to be individual with this car. The X2 M-Sport specification takes this cars sporting credentials to the next level with the addition of 20” M light alloy wheels and other interior upgrades.

Under the bonnet of the X2 is BMW’s acclaimed diesel technology, specifically the BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine. With the power to deliver performance and pulling power, it proves itself as a more than capable utility vehicle. The BMW X2 really does have all of its bases covered.

Launching just a mere few months ago, we hope to see the first BMW X2 arriving at Big Motoring World in the not so distant future. In the meantime, however, be sure to take a look at our extensive selection of BMW X range vehicles over on our website.
