The BMW X1 Receives An Update
The entire BMW range is undergoing a sweeping raft of changes at current with interior and exterior design features aplenty and the latest model on the receiving ending of these changes is the BMW X1.
A relatively new model to the German marques product roster, the BMW X1 is somewhat of a baby crossover between the BMW 1 Series and the full-blown SUV’s which start with the BMW X3. For all intents and purposes, the BMW X1 is a pumped up 1 Series. Sat on higher suspension with exterior tweaks to give a more rugged appeal, the X1 is a car born from tried and tested underpinnings.
Given the explosion in SUV’s and crossovers the X1 sits somewhat in a model no man's land, however, this hasn’t stopped BMW investing some time and significant investment to shift more attention onto this machine.
Like the rest of the BMW range updated in 2019, the new and refreshed 2020 model year X1 has been on the receiving end of some far-reaching design changes and most notable of these is the new BMW design philosophy around the front end.
It is a significantly more profiled dual kidney grille which takes up the increased area above the front apron. This grill is profiled to a greater degree on its leading edges and melts back softly into a more sweeping bonnet which sets the design tone for the rest of the car.
Revised headlights and reworked portions of the front apron lift the whole cars visual appeal and add a dash of sporting appeal, something that was vacant from the previous and outgoing incarnation.
Everything about this updated model looks significantly fresher and brings the X1 bang up to date in the face of continued and high profile competition.
Inside the story continues. Gone are the bland and featureless interiors of BMW’s of old and in is a fresh and contemporary feel. Beautiful use of materials and the latest in digital technology really lifts the X1 right up to date and places it on a level playing field to that of its competition when it comes to cabin look and feel.
From a mechanical and architecture point of view, the refreshed X1 will feature a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines, all of which come with a range of power outputs, whilst in major news, a plug-in hybrid will be on the way in 2020.
